PHILOSOPHY

Saint Francis Xavier School offers a quality Catholic education in a family-like environment. Love for God and neighbor is fostered and the religious and moral formation, begun at Baptism, is encouraged through the development of the whole child. Academic excellence and curiosity for knowledge flow from this commitment.

In the spirit of unity we call one another to be loving witnesses of Christ, relevant in the Church and world today. Faculty and parents commit themselves and guide the students to live out Catholic Christian values.

We affirm the goals set forth by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in their pastoral message, "To Teach As Jesus Did."

Message...

To proclaim the Good News and to translate this proclamation into action.

Community...

To build a faith community based on Jesus' commandment of love.

Service...

To reach out to meet the needs of others in following the example of Jesus.

MISSION

The mission of Saint Francis Xavier School is to provide a quality Catholic education according to the Good News of Jesus Christ through academic excellence, a faith community of love, and service to others.

St. Francis Xavier School and Bayer Corporation became Partners In Education on May 4, 1995. This partnership is in recognition "that education is a joint venture between schools and communities; schools are an integral part of every community, a key element in economic growth, and everyone has a stake in quality education; and the most effective unit of educational improvement is the individual school." (WV Education Fund P.I.E. Agreement)

Bayer Corporation is actively involved in the science, math, and technology programs at St. Francis Xavier School. Bayer Corporation financially supports such programs as student participation in West Liberty State College SMART Center programs and Wheeling Jesuit University NASA Challenger Center programs. Bayer Corporation employees visit St. Francis for in-school activities to demonstrate the magic of science, to judge science fairs, to challenge students' math and science skills, and to read to classes.

Bayer Corporation works closely with ORSANCO and the Ohio River Sweep. St. Francis 8th graders are involved with ORSANCO as River Watchers. The 8th grade science class tests water from the Ohio River to help ORSANCO maintain optimum river quality. St. Francis Xavier School students and families participate in the yearly Ohio River Sweep, which is a clean-up program to ensure the quality of the river and its banks.

Bayer partners with St. Francis in sponsoring quarterly recognition of students who earn the Principal's List. Bayer also awards prizes for school Science Fair winners and a Math-Science Award for a graduating 8th grader.

The technology program at St. Francis is advanced and maintained through the diligent efforts of the Bayer Corporation liaison with St. Francis Xavier School. Bayer also provides Career Awareness Activities through participation in Career Days at the school and by providing tours of the Bayer Corporation plant site for our 8th graders.
